Gift Vouchers
& Commissions

Gift Vouchers - for Painting Commissions only for 2023

Often, I'm asked to provide a gift voucher - this can either be for a painting, or to attend one of my art workshops. Workshop gift vouchers are usually for a friend or relative, whereas painting commissions can be for the purchaser or someone else.
IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR 2023
But, in 2023 I have decided NOT TO OFFER ANY WORKSHOPS, as I have important other projects to attend to next year and I won't have time to run workshops to my desired standard of preparation and delivery.  SO - PLEASE DON'T APPLY FOR, OR PAY FOR ANY GIFT VOUCHERS FOR WORKSHOPS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE HERE.   IF YOU DO, I WILL HAVE TO DISAPPOINT YOU AND THEN REFUND YOUR PAYMENT IN FULL.

You can still purchase a gift voucher for a painting commission however - using the gift voucher as part or full payment.

Payment is usually by PayPal (scroll down this page for options), but can also be by cheque or cash.

Commissions for Paintings
I get many requests to paint specific scenes, locations or portraits - these are commissioned paintings.
A commissioned painting allows you to have YOUR selected landscape/portrait/still life to view or to gift to someone - for Life!

A specific scene may hold a special place in someone's life and a painting captures it like no photo can.  With portraits, the commission may be to honour someone on a special occasion - a 'big' birthday, a retirement or significant achievement. And sometimes the portrait is of a loved one who may have passed - a painted portrait always seems very special and helps to keep their memory for generations to come.

Ask for a Quote for a Commissioned Painting
I am always happy to quote you for a specific commission.  Prices vary with the complexity and size of the painting, so it's usually necessary to have a short chat or online exchange to assess your requirements, and then I will quote you a price.
Framing is something you can organise yourself, or I can organise my framer to make a frame for your painting - I only charge the cost of framing - no additional charge.
Collection from my studio or Delivery by post/courier is up to you - again, I can arrange professional packing and posting for you - at cost.
Payment for commissions is most easily done via PayPal - you don't need to have an account with them - just a debit/credit card.
You scroll to bottom of this page and click on the Options window, then scroll down to select the value of the payment you wish to make and follow the on-screen instructions that bring you to the PayPal website.  If there isn't an Option value shown to meet your requirement, just email me and I can add an option quite easily to meet your need.

Phased Payments for commissions
There's usually a lot of work, and many hours involved in doing commissioned paintings, especially larger works or more detailed paintings, so after accepting my quote for the painting, I may ask for part payments as the work progresses through three phases. If the painting's progress is acceptable to you after each phase, you make a phased payment and permission is thereby given to me to work on the next phase.
This process helps to ensure that we are both happy with the progress of the painting and that there's no surprises at the end!

These three phased payments are non-refundable, and the painting becomes your property only when the final payment is made.

First Phase Payment   After my initial discussion with you, and after you have accepted my quote, I will email you my outline proposal for the work in either drawing or oil sketch or written form, and request approval and a one-third payment at that stage. This triggers the next phase.
Second Phase Payment I purchase the canvas/board and paints, develop my ideas further, do initial working sketches etc and paint the picture to a 'blocked-in' stage where the scale, shapes and colouring of the painting are evident. I will send you an image of the work in progress at this stage, and if you're satisfied with it, I ask for the second phase payment and I begin work on the final stage.

Final Phase Payment I work on this time-consuming stage of details/finishing that brings the painting to completion.  On completion of the work, I will email you the image of the painting. There may be minor adjustments requested and usually I'm happy to make these as long as I feel it's appropriate for the quality and accuracy of the painting.  Once the finished painting is accepted by you, the final payment is required.  Once the final payment is made, the painting is yours and I will provide it to you in whichever option you have chosen - direct collection or sent by post, and either framed or unframed.

Packing/Postage/Delivery details can then be worked out between us.  If postal/courier delivery is required, I can arrange professional packing (essential when posting artwork) and posting/courier. Any charges for packing/posting/courier are charged by me at cost only - no additional charge is incurred by you.
